David Brown Milne

Birthplace: Saugeen Shores, Ontario, Canada

Education: Art Students League of New York

Biography

Canadian artist David Milne’s landscape paintings were strongly influenced by American artist Maurice Brazil Prendergast (1858 – 1924) and the French Impressionists Claude Monet (1840 – 1926) and Georges Pierre Seurat (1859 – 1891).[1] For over a decade, he had a practice of applying patches of paint reminiscent of mosaic or sometimes resembling that of a quilt as seen in The Ravine, Boston Corners  (1917) and Boston Corners in January (1920).[2]During a period of time when Milne was studying and partaking in various exhibitions in New York, he settled in Boston Corners because of economic pressure.[3]
