Biography

John Alexander Hall remains somewhat enigmatic due to limited information available about his life and work. While specific details about his artistic style and theme have yet to be researched into, it is still discernible that he drew inspiration from the Group of Seven as demonstrated in Red Rock Falls (1945). The painting exudes energy and movement through its usage of bright colours, thick impasto strokes, and simple yet dynamic forms, which are qualities reminiscent of the signature style of the Group of Seven, capturing the essence of the rugged Canadian landscape tradition.[1]
